Well loved by holiday makers and Island residents alike, Sandown Beach is a near perfect miles long stretch of perfect golden sands. Blending in to Yaverland Beach to the east, and Shanklin Beach to the west, beach lovers will find every inch an idyllic spot to top up the tan or simply lie back and relax.
The effect on the tides isn’t so pronounced as it is on the north coastline of the Island, meaning that throughout the entire day you’re guaranteed sand and deep sea at all times.
Access to the beach is good along the entire stretch; although along the promenade the beach is a good 10 feet lower than street level, access is via steps placed approximately 150m apart. Further along to the west (behind the high street), access to the beach for wheelchair or pushchair users is better with numerous ramps down to the beach.
There is no beach matting on Sandown Beach; however beach wheelchairs are available to hire from the esplanade.
Parking is good throughout with bays all along the esplanade. Blue badge holders can park for free for up to 3 hours.
